'Babies Were Burned': Muslim Gunmen Massacre up to 200 Christians in Nigeria – cbn.com

The recent massacre of an estimated 200 Nigerian Christians last week is sending shock waves around the world with one international aid organization calling it the “worst killing spree” in the region yet.
Heavily armed Fulani jihadists attacked Christian villagers in Yelwata, a farming community in Guma County, Benue State, over two days.
Micheel Odeh James with Truth Nigeria told CBN News that Benue State is a predominantly Christian community, and Yelwata was a settlement for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) or people who fled previous Fulani militant attacks in neighboring towns.
“We are about 6 to 7 million Nigerians living in Benue, and over 97% of them are Christians. They are Baptist, they are Methodists, they are Catholics. Militants set fire to their buildings as people slept, and attacked with machetes anyone who tried to flee,” James recounted.
He added that the scene was a gruesome “genocidal massacre.”
“(It was) not just slaughtering, not just macheting, (but) they locked some people up…and then doused them with gasoline and then set them ablaze,” he described. “Babies were burned.”

In a first-hand report given to Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), police were able to stop the attackers in one spot as they tried to storm Yelewata’s St. Joseph’s Church, where 700 lived. The jihadists then turned to the town’s market square, where they reportedly used fuel to set fire to the doors of the displaced people’s accommodation, before opening fire in an area where more than 500 people were asleep.
A local clergy member told ACN that in the three-hour killing spree, 200 people were killed.
One eyewitness told Genocide Watch that 40 gunmen stormed the village on motorcycles in pairs, shouting “Allahu Akbar,” and firing at people indiscriminately.
“They came from Rukubi in Doma, Keana, Obi, and other counties in Nasarawa State,” said Mton Matthias, a local youth leader. “They surrounded Yelwata, speaking Hausa and Fufulde, and began slaughtering people—mostly women, children, and displaced families who thought they had found safety here.”
“We’re still finding bodies in the bushes,” he added. “The death toll is rising every hour.”
James told CBN News, “Christians are being slaughtered in a gruesome manner in Nigeria’s middle belt where Christians predominate, and unfortunately, nothing is happening (to protect them).”
Muslim Gunmen Massacre at Least 40 Christians in Nigeria on Palm Sunday, 113 Killed Since March
The spokesperson with Truth Nigeria says the attack in Nigeria’s Middle Belt is not being widely publicized for political reasons.
“The previous government that’s under Muhammad Buhari, who is a Fulani man, passed the killings off as ‘farmers clash,’ but when we defined it as ‘genocidal killing prompted by land grabbing,’ they get angry. So they started suppressing the press from carrying out the report of these killings.”
“A new president has come and he has (only) liberalized the space and that is why you can see to a certain extent the media are carrying it halfheartedly,” James added.
Rev. Fr. Remigius Ihyula, Director of Makurdi’s Justice, Peace and Development Foundation (JPDF), agrees and told Genocide Watch that the violence against Christians in the region is not random.
“These Fulani militias are not just killing—they’re clearing land to claim it,” he said. “And they’re being allowed to do it.”
However, faithful believers are spreading the tragic news and asking for international help, warning the jihadist militants are ethnically cleansing the region of its Christian presence.
“Some families were completely wiped out,” Matthew Mnyam, a community leader in Yelwata, told International Christian Concern (ICC). “A man, his two wives, and all their children were burned alive. It was a well-coordinated assault from both eastern and western flanks of the community.”
Faith leaders in the United States are responding and some are calling the U.S. State Department to redesignate Nigeria as a country of particular concern (CPC).
A CPC is defined as a country “engaged in” or tolerating “particularly severe violations of religious freedom.”
“America must use its influence to protect Christians and others being targeted by Islamists,” said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. “The U.S. government should redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and sanction the Nigerian government.”
Faith leaders are asking believers around the world to pray for Christians in Nigeria.
“The massacre of up to 200 Christians in Yelewata, Nigeria, is a heartbreaking reminder of the suffering our brothers and sisters endure for their faith,” said Brian Orme, president and CEO of Global Christian Relief.
“We grieve with the families and stand with the Nigerian church as they persevere in hope. Now is the time for the global body of Christ to unite in prayer and action—making it clear that our persecuted family is not alone,” he added.
Nigeria currently ranks as the seventh worst place in the world for Christians, according to Open Doors‘ World Watch List.

Environment Canada issues heat warning for Chatham-Kent – Chatham Daily News

Environment Canada issues heat warning for Chatham-Kent – Chatham Daily News

The first significant heat wave of the season with temperatures forecast over 30 C for the coming days expected to bring dangerously hot conditions has prompted Environment Canada to issue a heat warning.
“In high temperatures and humidity, your body may not be able to cool properly which can lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke,” said a media release from Chatham-Kent Public Health.
Symptoms of heat-related illness may include red and hot skin, dizziness, fainting, nausea, rapid heartbeat, extreme thirst, and decreased urination, the health unit said. If you have these symptoms, move to a shaded or air-conditioned area; drink plenty of fluids, and rest. Contact your health care provider, a friend, or a family member.
“Regularly check on those who may be vulnerable to overheating and who may need help keeping cool,” the health unit advises. “Those at greater risk of heat-related illness include older adults, those living alone, the very young, people with chronic illnesses, and even healthy people if they participate in strenuous activities and do not take precautions.”
Heat stroke is considered a medical emergency, the health unit said.
“Call 911 immediately if someone you are caring for has a high body temperature, is confused, or unconscious. While you wait for medical attention, try to cool the person by moving them to a cool place, removing extra clothing, applying cold water or ice packs around the body.”
During a prolonged heat event, indoor air temperatures in homes can reach dangerous levels, as higher temperatures overnight do not adequately cool off the home. People without air conditioning are at an increased risk of heat-related illness.
Ways to help prevent heat-related illness:
Municipal centres and libraries are available to get out of the heat, the health unit said.
Those lacking shelter, water, or food are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat. Anyone experiencing homelessness should call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628 (24/7) for support.

Nushrratt Bharuccha TROLLED As Volunteers Untie Her Shoes At Fitness Event: 'Yoga Kaise Karogi?' – News18

Nushrratt Bharuccha TROLLED As Volunteers Untie Her Shoes At Fitness Event: 'Yoga Kaise Karogi?' – News18

Actress Nushrratt Bharuccha is under fire on social media after a video from an International Yoga Day celebration in Mumbai went viral. Held on June 21, the public event aimed to promote yoga, mindfulness, and physical wellness. Nushrratt joined the gathering to show support for the cause — but a brief moment caught on camera sparked unexpected backlash.

Among several clips that surfaced online, one stood out — and not for the right reasons. In the now-viral video shared by Telly Chakkar, a group of volunteers can be seen bending down to remove Nushrratt’s shoes as she stands by. The footage quickly drew attention, with many social media users voicing strong disapproval.

A post shared by TCX.official (@tellychakkar)

As the clip gained traction, Instagram users began calling out the actress. A number of comments accused her of encouraging “VIP culture," arguing that such acts were out of place at a yoga event rooted in humility and equality. Others called the moment “disrespectful," given the nature of the event and the setting.

The incident overshadowed the rest of Nushrratt’s appearance at the event, where she had participated in yoga sessions and interacted with the crowd.

One comment read, “Why she two people to remove her shoes…and she s going to do yoga????" Another read, “I don’t appreciate this that the other person is untying shoes.. Bhagwan ne hath pair sahi diye hain do it urself."

At the same event, things got a bit out of hand when she was mobbed by a huge crowd of fans who were all trying to take selfies with her. In a video that’s now going viral, Nushrratt is seen looking quite panicked and shouting, “Mere log kaha hai?" as she tries to find her team. She looked really uncomfortable as fans got too close and surrounded her from all sides.

Nushrratt was last seen in Chhorii 2, which hit screens earlier this year. Directed by Vishal Furia, the film also starred Soha Ali Khan in the lead role. She will next be seen in Bun Tikki, a film that also features Abhay Deol, Shabana Azmi, and Zeenat Aman.
